What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

Moses and the Plagues

Story - Let My People Go by Tilda Balsley

Song – “I may never march in the infantry"

Song – “He's got the whole world in His hands”

Game – “Pharaoh’s Frogs”

  • In our story, the Pharaoh would not let Moses and his people leave the country.  So God sent many frogs that were everywhere, rivers, beds, and even ovens.
  • Have kids squat down in a line with their chins tucked to their chests and hands on the floor.  Allow about one foot of space between frogs.  Place tape marks on the carpet for the frogs to jump over.  You can also have a frog race or play follow the leader frog.
  • You may want to chant:  Jump, jump, jump, jump, jump/ the frogs made Pharaoh quite a grump!

Art – River of Red

  • In our story, the Pharaoh would not let Moses and his people leave the country.  So God turned the water red, which killed the fish and got rid of the drinking water.
  • Give each child a piece of paper and have them paint with red paint.  They can also place different confetti for the contamination on the paint while it is still wet (it will stick if wet).

Story Magnifier – The Plague Play

  • In our story, the Pharaoh would not let Moses and his people leave the country.  He told Moses “no” ten times.
  • Act out the ten miracles (similar to Simon Says):
  •   God turned Aaron’s stick into a snake (wiggle like a snake on your stomach)
  •   God turned the river red (make a bad face and pretend to swim)
  •   God sent frogs to cover the land (hop like a frog)
  •   God filled the air with gnats (wave arms like swatting bugs)
  •   God let the cows die all at once (stand on all fours and fall over)
  •   God gave the people sores all over their bodies (jump up and down saying “ouch”)
  •   God sent hail falling down from the sky (cover head dodge the pretend hail)
  •   God sent a swarm of locust to cover the land (hop up and down on all fours, chomping with mouth)
  •   God turned the daylight into darkness (cover your eyes)
  •   God protected all the Hebrew children (clap and cheer)
