Song – “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”
Song – “Deep and Wide”
Game – “Sheep Herding”
- At age ten, Brigid was in charge of a small flock of sheep. Her cloak protected her and she protected the sheep. In fact, when she grew up, she protected many people too. Brigid founded many convents all over Ireland where the poor could always find shelter and a meal.
- Set up the two chairs at one end and a start line at the other end. Have about 3 or so children play at once. Start at the line with a balloon sheep between the feet. The first to push the "sheep" across the floor with a "rod" through the "gate" is the winner of that round.
Story Magnifier – Find the Lantern
- In our story, one night when the stars were singing, a light appeared in the forest. The light was a lantern belonging to a Druid that brought a cloak to the infant Brigid.
- Everyone sits in a circle with one child in the middle. With the middle child’s eyes closed, hand a lantern cut out to a child in the circle to hide behind his/her back. Say the rhyme, “Lantern, Lantern, Glows so bright in the dark forest night. With the singing night time stars, find the light that might be ours,” The middle child looks up and has three guess to find who has the lantern. Then a new person is chosen for the middle.
Art – Cloak
- After Brigid’s vision of Bethlehem, her faded blue tattered cloak changed to a deep blue with dozens of tiny glowing stars. Her cloak played a part in several miracles later in her life and became a sign of protection.
- Decorate the finger puppet and staple a cloak on to the back. If extra time, have the children put their finger puppet on and talk to other finger puppets.
