Song – “I may never march in the infantry"
Song – “He's got the whole world in His hands”
Game – “Who’s Calling?”
- As Samuel was sleeping, he heard a voice calling his name. It was God talking to Samuel as he slept in the temple.
- Make a circle with one child in the middle laying on a pillow and pretending to sleep. Tap one child from the outer circle on the head. That child says, “Come here, Samuel.” The sleeping child wakes up and points to who s/he thought said the words. If wrong the child goes back to sleep and tries again after the other child has spoken again. Then they trade places and a new caller is chosen.
Story Magnifier – Ringing Bells
- The bible gives us words God wants us to hear. Just as Samuel listened when God called, we need to listen to God’s words too.
- Set Up: In the middle of two feet of lightweight string, tie on a metal spoon. Demonstrate: Wrap the string ends around each of your index fingers. Put your finger in your ears (like blocking out noise). Swing the string, striking the spoon against the edge of the table, the wall, a chair, or another object.
- The vibrations travel better through a solid object than through air. When the spoon is tapped, the sound waves travel through the string producing a ringing sound.
Art – God’s Word in Your Heart
- God spoke to Samuel, and He speaks to us through the bible and good deeds.
- Decorate the person to be yourself and glue on the heart so it opens.
