What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

Jesus Feeds a Crowd

Story - The Jesus Story Book page 244

Song – “Five Loaves and Two Fishes” (Tune: Ten Little Indians)

Song – “The More We Get Together"

Game – “Jesus feeds a Crowd Game”

  • Jesus took the lunch of one little boy and turned it into baskets of food that fed five thousand.
  • Divide children into two teams Have teams line up at different corners of the playing area. Place a bowl with “fish and loaves” in the center of the play area.  At the go the first players from each team must walk fast with their spoon to the bowl, scoop the "fish and loaves" into their spoon and return to dump the "fish and loaves" into their basket. Players then hand the spoon to the next player in line. Play continues until the bowl is emptied.  The team with the most wins.

Story Magnifier – 2 Fish and 5 Loaves

  • The little boy in the story gave away his lunch to help Jesus and the rest of the crowd.  It’s hard to give away something that we really want for ourselves.  Jesus wants us to share with others.
  • Hand out 2 fish and 5 loaves of “bread” and count them as a group.  Remind the children: that is all Jesus had to feed more people than would fit into our church.  Have them string the “food” on as a reminder to share with others.  Hand out dot-to-dot, if left over time.

Art – Basket o’ Plenty

  • Only one little boy brought fish and bread to lunch; but when he shared, Jesus used the food to feed the whole crowd.
  • Give each child cardstock folded in half.  Add a pipe cleaner handle and have them decorate the outside.  Have children cut-out and glue food items inside to pack their “lunch boxes.”
