What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

Jesus Starts his Ministry

Story - The Jesus Story Book page 208

Song – “Row, Row, Row your Boat”

Song – “I may never march in the infantry"

Game – “Fishing for Men”

  • Jesus chose poor fishermen to follow Him.  Jesus chooses us to follow Him too.  He chooses us because He loves us.  We show that we follow Him by praying and sharing our faith.
  • Have all children stand on a line of the gym floor with you in the middle of two lines.  Explain that you are a fisherman and they are the fish.  Their goal is to make it to the other line without being tagged by a fisherman.  If they are tagged, they become a fisherman and need to help catch more fish.
  • You start by saying “Fishes, fishes in the sea.  Fishes with ________ can’t escape me.”  Anyone with that color on or wearing shorts or with brown hair, etc. must try to run to the other side.

Story Magnifier – Straw Fishing

  • Jesus chose poor fishermen to follow Him.  Jesus chooses us to follow Him too.  He chooses us because He loves us.  We show that we follow Him by praying and sharing our faith.
  • Give each child a straw (throw in trash when finished).  Have everyone try to pick up a fish by sucking on the straw.  Carry the fish to the boat and drop it inside (If this proves too challenging, blow the fish across the floor toward the boat).

Art – Boat

  • The Disciples were fishermen.  They used boats and fishing equipment to gather fish.  Jesus chose these fishermen as his first followers.
  • Use markers to design a boat.  Glue a sail on a stick and to glue the stick into the bottom of the boat.
