What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

Lent

Story - The Jesus Story Book page 208-10

Song – “I may never march in the infantry"

Song – “Jesus Loves Me”

Game – Desert Temptation Stations

  • Lent is a time of repentance, fasting, and preparation for the coming of Easter.  We focus on our relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or to volunteer for others.
  • Break the children up into two groups.  Children have a relay race:

  1. Return the bread to the basket for it will feed your body but not your soul.
  2. Walk on the “tightrope” to the mountain.
  3. Climb the mountain, but when going over be careful, little feet, where you jump.
  4. Crawl through the tunnel to the “Throne.”
  5. Sit down in the throne and remember to worship only God.
  6. Run to the bread basket, pick up a loaf to hand to the next friend.

Story Magnifier – Cross Necklace

  • Sundays in Lent are not counted in the forty days because each Sunday represents a “mini-Easter,” in which we reflect on the joyful anticipation of the Resurrection.
  • Use a cross and beads to make a necklace.

Art – Coffee Filter Butterflies

  • Lent comes from a word that means “Spring.”  The forty days represents the time Jesus spent preparing to begin his ministry.  Just like a caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly, we who are in Christ become new creations.
  • Color the coffee filter with markers completely.  Then take a wet paint brush and wet the coffee filter to make the marker spread.  Bunch the coffee filter in the middle and clip the clothespin on with a chenille stem
