What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

The Light of the World: story of the shepherds

Story - The Jesus Story Book page 184

Song – “This Little Light of Mine”

Song – “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”

Game – “Race to Jesus”

  • The shepherds left their sheep and fire when they heard Jesus was born.  They ran as fast as they could to get to the manger.
  • This game is played like “Red light, Green light.”  One person plays the angel and the others try to reach the manger.  The angel faces away from the line of kids and says "go". The kids move towards the manger.  At any point, the angel may say "stop!" and turn around. If any of the kids are caught moving, they return to the line.  Play resumes when the angel turns back around and says "go."

Story Magnifier – Angels

  • The shepherds were considered nobody important and yet they were the ones that the troops of angels came to first.  The angels were sharing the good news of Jesus’ birth with everyone.
  • Make halos using aluminum foil, ribbons, and chenille stems.  Twist foil to form a circle.  Wrap and tie decorations on.

Art – Making Cards

  • After seeing and hearing the angel’s news, the shepherds knew Jesus was God’s Son whom they had been waiting for.  Like the shepherds, we share the excitement of Jesus’ birth too.
  • Use stamps, markers, and folded card stock to make a special Christmas card.
