What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

Walking on Water

Story - The Beginner Bible page 381

Song – “Jesus Walks on Water” (Tune: Wheels on the Bus)

Song – “Jesus Hokey Pokey”

Game – “One Step at a Time”

  • Today we learned about Jesus and Peter walking on the water.  The wind and waves could have knocked Peter down.  Peter had to keep his eyes on Jesus to walk on the water
  • Chose one child to be Peter and have that child remove his/her shoes.  All of the other kids hold on to the parachute while leaving a walkway for “Peter” to go across.  The kids shake and wave the parachute and “Peter” must not look down.

Story Magnifier – On Top of Water

  • The disciples were very afraid when they were in the boat.  They weren’t sure who, or what, was walking on the water.  Jesus reminded them that they could put their trust in him and be brave.
  • Shake the bottles to try to mix the oil and water.  Watch the oil and water separate back out with the oil on top of the water.

Art – Foot Prints

  • When the disciples realized that Jesus was walking on water, they were amazed.  Peter walked out to meet Jesus, only to become afraid.  Jesus reminded him that there was nothing to be afraid of.  When we are afraid, we can ask Jesus to help us, too.
  • Trace each child’s shoe (older kids may be able to do this) and have them decorate the bottom of their foot print with water colors.
