What is Cherub Church you ask?

Cherub Church is St. Jude's Religious Education Preschool Program, offered during the 10:30 Mass in the early childhood area of the Parish Center basement. Preschoolers, ages 3 to 6, engage in interactive activities to reinforce the Bible point of the day. Through this program, preschoolers develop a sense of community and belonging to the parish of St. Jude.

Planting Seeds

Story - The Beginner’s Bible Treasury p. 248

Song – “Jesus Hokey Pokey”

Song – “You are my Sunshine”

Game – Four Corners

  • The object is to pass the balloon around a circle.  First try it as “birds” - flap arms to be wings and only touch the balloon with the wings.  Then, “Rocks” – hands at sides, standing still.  Only use heads or shoulders to touch balloon.  Then, “Thorns” – hands at sides, only use their legs and feet to touch balloon.  Finally, “Good Dirt” – stands relaxed and use hands and feet to touch balloon.
  • What was the easiest way to pass the balloon?  When seeds fall on good soil, they grow quickly and easily.  Our hearts are like good soil when we hear and do what God tells us to through the Bible, church, and our parents.

Story Magnifier – Planting Seeds

  • You are going to be sowing seeds in good dirt.  When seeds find good dirt, they grow and prosper; just like when we have an open heart to God.
  • Give every child a terrarium.  Fill the white part with dirt and pat down.  Place a finger hole and put in a seed.  Add a little water and place lid on.

Art – Seed Packets

  • In our story, God planted his seed in our hearts.  God wants us to grow.
  • Decorate a half of envelope as a seed packet.  Give every child a green straw to have sticking out of their packet and flower sticker to design a flower on their “stem.”
